While there is certainly pushback, and plenty of polarization, among the independent schools I admire, and there are many of them, I'm seeing no retreat from their commitment to attracting, retaining and supporting as pluralistic a student body as their location and resources allow. Moreover, there is a near universal expansion of the perspectives taught in these schools as there is no one truth, no matter how red your hat. I see resistance to an orthodoxy coming from any direction which is why the descriptor of "independent" was an improvement over "private".
